Part 1: AQ-10 β€” 10 questions assessing autism spectrum traits

2

Part 2: ASRS-5 β€” 6 questions assessing ADHD traits

Estimated time: 3 minutes

About This AuDHD Screening Test

This free online AuDHD screening combines two of the most well-validated brief screening instruments in clinical psychology:

AQ-10

The AQ-10 (Autism Spectrum Quotient β€” 10 Items) was developed by the Autism Research Centre at the University of Cambridge. Published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 2012, it has been validated with a sensitivity of 0.88 and specificity of 0.91, meaning it correctly identifies the vast majority of individuals who should seek further autism evaluation. The AQ-10 uses a 4-point response scale (Definitely Agree to Definitely Disagree) with binary scoring. A score of 6 or above out of 10 suggests that a more detailed autism assessment may be beneficial.

ASRS-5

The ASRS-5 (Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale for DSM-5) was developed by the World Health Organization in collaboration with Harvard Medical School and NYU. Published in JAMA Psychiatry in 2017, it achieves an AUC of 0.94 β€” one of the highest accuracy scores of any brief psychiatric screening instrument. The ASRS-5 uses a 5-point response scale (Never to Very Often) with a weighted scoring system optimized using machine learning. A score of 14 or above out of 24 indicates a positive ADHD screening result.

Why combine both? Because AuDHD β€” the co-occurrence of autism and ADHD β€” affects 50-70% of autistic individuals, and these conditions are often missed when screened separately.

How We Calculate Your Results

Transparency is a core principle of this screening tool. Unlike many online tests that use proprietary or unexplained scoring systems, our AuDHD screening uses the exact scoring methods published in the original academic studies.

Autism Score (AQ-10): Each of the 10 autism-related questions is scored as 0 or 1. Questions 1, 7, 8, and 10 score 1 point for an 'Agree' response. Questions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9 score 1 point for a 'Disagree' response. Your total autism score ranges from 0 to 10.

ADHD Score (ASRS-5): The 6 ADHD-related questions use a weighted scoring system where different questions carry different maximum point values, ranging from 2 to 6 points per question. This weighting was optimized using the SLIM (Supersparse Linear Integer Model) machine learning algorithm to maximize screening accuracy. Your total ADHD score ranges from 0 to 24.

Your result shows both scores independently, giving you a dual-dimension view of your neurodivergent traits. We provide interpretation based on the clinical cutoff thresholds established in the original research β€” not our own arbitrary categories.

Frequently Asked Questions About This Test

Is this test clinically validated?
This screening uses two instruments that have been independently validated in peer-reviewed research. The AQ-10 was validated with a sensitivity of 0.88 and specificity of 0.91 (Allison et al., 2012). The ASRS-5 achieved an AUC of 0.94, with 91.4% sensitivity and 96.0% specificity (Ustun et al., 2017). We use the exact scoring methods from these original studies.
Do I need to create an account or provide my email?
No. This screening is completely free and anonymous. You do not need to create an account, provide an email, or share any personal information.
How long does the test take?
Most people complete the 16 questions in 2 to 4 minutes. There is no time limit β€” take as long as you need to consider each question carefully.
Can I take this test for someone else?
This screening is designed as a self-report tool. The questions ask about your own personal experience and perception. While you can answer on behalf of someone else, the results may be less accurate because self-report tools rely on the individual's own self-awareness.
What should I do with my results?
If your results indicate elevated autistic or ADHD traits, consider discussing them with a healthcare professional who specializes in neurodevelopmental conditions. Your screening results can be a useful starting point for that conversation.
Is my data stored or shared?
Your test responses are stored securely to generate your results and allow you to access them via your unique results link. We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
How accurate is this screening compared to a full clinical assessment?
Brief screening tools like the AQ-10 and ASRS-5 are designed to identify individuals who may benefit from a full assessment. They are not substitutes for a comprehensive evaluation, which typically involves a detailed clinical interview, developmental history, and behavioral observation.
Can I retake the test?
Yes. You can retake the screening as many times as you like. However, we recommend answering based on your general, typical experience rather than how you feel on any particular day.
